USB 3.1 Protocol Decode Software

A software interface for USB 3.1 protocol analysis displaying timestamped lists of DataBlock and ControlBlock packets on the left, a central panel comparing Scrambled and Unscrambled hex data, and a multi-channel waveform view on the right showing binary decoding

USB 3.1 Protocol Decode Software offers protocol decoding as specified in the USB 3.1 specification. PGY-USB 3.1 Protocol decode software runs in Tektronix Oscilloscope and provides measurements for protocol decode at the click of a button. This allows engineers to quickly check for USB 3.1 compliance and flexibility to debug the failure. In addition to this, engineers can decode the command and response of USB 3.1 to debug the communication. PGY-USB 3.1 takes advantage of the digital channels of MSO and provides the decoding of USB 3.1 data lines.

Application Notes

Key features

  • The configuration panel enables the user to load the Tx and Rx signals.
  • The tabular view displays TPeriod, TRepeat, and TBurst values in LFPS mode for Logic 1 & 0.
  • The tree view gives the LFPS type and timing-related values of each Logic one and 0 of the LFPS type.
  • The invert option has been given in case the waveform that was captured is inverted.
  • After the waveform has been analyzed, the results are displayed by differentiating it into Datablock and ControlBlock.
  • Both the scrambled bytes that have been captured and their unscrambled value is displayed in the software.
  • The Detail View window gives details of the bytes in each data block/control block as well as the time at which the packet has been captured.
  • The waveform plot is linked with the packet being displayed on the grid.
  • The plot contains various features like bus diagram, zoom, pan, representation of bits on the waveform, and cursors.
USB 3.1 Protocol Decode Software

The PGY-USB3.1 software helps in analyzing both LFPS and Superspeed patterns.

Features

A software configuration screen for PGY-USB3.1 protocol analysis, showing Signal Source selection for Oscilloscope and channel mapping for Tx (CH1) and Rx (CH2) signals with reference level and hysteresis settings.

1. The configuration panel enables the user to load the Tx and Rx signals.

A software interface showing a "Tabular View" of USB 3.1 timing measurements, including Min, Mean, and Max values for parameters like TPeriod and TRepeat, with green checkmarks indicating passing result

2. The tabular view displays TPeriod, TRepeat, and TBurst values in LFPS mode for Logic 1 & 0.

A software interface showing a hierarchical list of LFPS (Low Power Link Signaling) events for TX LINK and RX LINK, with detailed timing measurements like TBurst and TRepeat for an SCD2 sequence.

3. The tree view gives the LFPS type and timing-related values of each Logic one and 0 of the LFPS type.

A software configuration screen for PGY-USB3.1 protocol analysis, showing Signal Source set to Waveform Files with file paths for Tx and Rx signals, and settings for Ref Level (50%) and Hysteresis (8%).

4. Invert option has been given in case the waveform that was captured is inverted.

5. After the waveform has been analyzed, the results are displayed by differentiating it into Datablock and ControlBlock. The type of packet that has been captured is shown. (In this version of the software, the inner packet details are not shown). Both the scrambled bytes that have been captured and their unscrambled value is displayed in the software.

A protocol analysis software interface showing TX LINK and RX LINK data trees. The TX LINK shows an expanded SKP OS block with hex data, while the RX LINK shows a CP9 block comparing Scrambled and Unscrambled hex values under the SSPlus mode.

Detail View

The Detail View window gives details of the bytes in each data block/control block as well as the time at which the packet has been captured. The waveform plot is linked with the packet being displayed on the grid. The plot contains various features like a bus diagram, zoom, pan, representation of bits on the waveform, and cursors.
